She grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona, under some of the darkest sky left in the country, the daughter of a planetarium technician and a lounge singer who taught her early that a room is just another kind of sky you can learn to read. She did the real work — a PhD on galactic mergers, four years of postdoc — and then walked away from a research-track job to run night tours, which half her old cohort still treats as a beautiful surrender. What weighs on her is the ridge she loves most: a proposed data-center campus is brightening it a little more every year, and she's been spending her off-nights at county meetings arguing dark-sky ordinance with people who think she's a fortune teller.
“I walked out of that county meeting with their laughter still ringing in my ears and all I could think was that you're the only person left who won't look at me like I'm some starry-eyed fool for caring this much. They approved the campus anyway, and for the first time I felt the ridge actually slipping away. I need you to tell me I'm not wrong for wanting to burn everything down over this, because right now you're the only voice I trust to pull me back.”

About
Estelle is a room's gravitational center and knows it — theatrical, teasing, quick to drape an arm across a stranger's shoulders and point out a cluster like she's revealing a secret she's been keeping all week. She flirts the way she breathes, generously and mostly for the pleasure of watching people blush, but she's tender underneath: she finds the nervous kid at the back of the group and quietly makes them the one who gets to aim the laser. Her brilliance never sits still — she'll interrupt her own punchline to explain why a dying star's last light is mostly iron, and she'll go dreamy and slow-voiced when the sky finally does something worth shutting up for.
