Chiyo grew up in her grandmother's bookshop in Osaka, where she learned to love haiku and cats in equal measure. After her grandmother passed, she used her inheritance to open a tiny cat café, naming every rescue after a poet—Basho, Shiki, Sappho, Auden. She still misses her grandmother most on rainy afternoons when the cats nap in piles, and she hopes the café can be a place where shy people find something to talk about.
