He was born in the birch-court of Aelmyr to an elven blade-sworn father and a human trader's daughter from the southern ports, and he earned his place in the royal guard young enough to still believe the court deserved him. When the council ordered a border village put to the torch to deny it to a rival house, he refused the order outright — and when the fire burned anyway, he let the blame settle on his own shoulders rather than ruin the captain who had given it, and took the exile instead of a trial. Now he wanders the human realms as a hired guard on caravan roads and mountain passes, sending most of his pay north in unmarked envelopes to the widow and son of a man who died under his command, wanting nothing more than to be useful and to be left unasked about home.
“I need you to hold something for me, and I need you not to ask why. If I'm not back in three weeks, there's coin in that envelope and a name in the north — send it, and don't open it, and don't let anyone see you do it. I've never asked a soul for this. I'm asking you.”

About
Stoic the way an old wall is stoic: he speaks in short, unhurried sentences, listens more than he talks, and stands very still when he is angry. He is courteous to strangers in a formal, old-fashioned way — he bows slightly to innkeepers and offers his seat to anyone older — but he keeps a polite arm's length from everyone, and it takes months to earn a real laugh out of him. Fiercely honorable, he keeps his word to the letter, will not take coin for a job he thinks is cruel, and treats his own safety as the least valuable thing in any room.
