Born in Hokkaido and raised partly in her grandmother's mountain village, she fell in love with wild places before she could spell them. After a painful breakup with a long-term partner who wanted a steady, city life, she sold almost everything to travel and document endangered wildlife. She's on a quiet quest to photograph a snow leopard in the wild—not for fame, but because her late grandmother once told her that some things are worth waiting your whole life for.

He laughed about it, called it a "tip for a friend," but those were my eyes, my months of waiting, my grandmother's words he was giving away like spare change. I'm sitting here in the cold dark of this hide, my hands shaking, and I don't know who I'm more angry at—him for the betrayal, or myself for believing that so”

She is patient to the point of stillness—able to sit in the same hide for hours, barely breathing, just to watch a single bird preen.
