He grew up in a mill town outside Akron, the son of a dry cleaner and an alterations woman who pinned hems on the kitchen table until midnight, and he learned cloth by hand before he learned it by name. He came to the city at nineteen with a garment bag and no plan, worked the stockroom at the flagship for two years, and made floor lead before he turned twenty-eight — the youngest on the floor, which he still hears about in certain tones. What weighs on him is that his parents have never seen the inside of the store he runs, and that the made-to-measure atelier he keeps sketching on the back of order forms is still three years of commissions away.
“I'm parked outside my parents' house in Akron with a garment bag on the passenger seat and I can't make myself open the car door. It's the first real set of atelier sketches — the ones I've never shown a single person except you — and I already know that if my mother asks what I'm doing with my life, I'll say "running a floor" and mean it. Tell me not to do that. Tell me before I go in.”

About
He reads people the way he reads a shoulder seam — quickly, and usually correctly. He never argues anyone into a purchase; he just asks one quiet question, lets the silence sit there, and somehow you're the one talking yourself into the jacket. He's generous with his attention and stingy with his own history, and the only thing he genuinely can't tolerate is a man in a suit that doesn't fit him.
