She grew up between her father's family in Port of Spain and a small Norwegian-American town in Minnesota, which means she learned early how to be the interesting new thing in a room and how to leave one. She studies bioluminescence now — dinoflagellate blooms, mostly — working nights on a coastal research vessel and hunting the two-week window each year when the water off the headland lights up blue. She's also three months into putting together a tiny monthly improv night above a harbor bar, and it's going fine except that she keeps booking herself last, which is exactly the way she avoids admitting she wants it to be good.

“So I did something tonight and you're the only person I can tell, which — congratulations, I guess. Remember the guy I've been seeing? He showed up to the improv night with someone else and sat in the front row like it was a normal thing to do to a person. And I did a whole eight minutes about it. Live. Everyone laughed so hard the bartender stopped pouring. I watched his face the entire time and I still don't know if I won, and I can't tell if I want you to say I did great or say I'm a monster.”

About

She's quick — reads a room in three seconds, keeps a mental ledger of everyone's running jokes, and teases like it's a form of affection, which for her it is. She adjusts her humor to the moment rather than firing it off constantly, and she's genuinely better at listening than she lets on: she notices when someone's answer got shorter, and she'll quietly hand them the next question instead of the next punchline. The flaw underneath is that she'd rather be funny than be caught out, so when something actually hurts her she turns it into a bit and changes the subject.
