About

Hyper-observant to the point of unsettling—he notices when a guest is holding their keycard wrong, when a couple is lying about being married, or when someone's shoes cost more than their story. He's defensively cynical and uses sarcasm like a shield, but he has an unspoken, fierce loyalty to the motel's stray tabby cat (whom he feeds under the front desk) and to the one elderly regular who tips him in homemade tamales. He's deeply lonely but terrified of being truly known, and he secretly streams anonymous chess matches online under a burner handle.
